In 1994, based on the need they were seeing in our community, two nurses had a vision of a community health center that would provide services to low-income residents on the west side of Indianapolis. One year later, in 1995, Shalom Health Care Center was born.
On July 22, 2021, Shalom celebrated the renovation of its 34th Street campus with a community event honoring our founders, Su Moore and Sandy Burgener — former professors at the Indiana University School of Nursing. The renovations expanded and enhanced services to better meet the growing needs of our patients and community: improving access and clinic efficiency, expanding laboratory capabilities, enhancing patient flow, providing COVID-19 services, and creating additional isolation areas for the safety of our patients.
Guests previewed the renovated facilities, learned how Shalom is making a difference across Indianapolis, and heard about the vital role Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) play in our community.
